As I write this, we are entering into another weekend. I wonder, have you taken the time to schedule in something that makes you feel nurtured, supported and cared for? 
 
What nurtures you? 
 
So often when I ask women this, they don’t know the answer off the top of their heads. If that sounds familiar, please schedule time right now to sit with this question. Pick a spot that is quiet and arrange for no interruptions – this doesn’t have to be long, even 30 minutes would be great!
 
Set yourself up comfortably. Gather your favorite drink (I’m a tea girl!) and journal. 
Begin by bringing your awareness to your breath, gently close your eyes and then ask yourself one question at a time:
What makes me feel nurtured?
 
When do I feel nurtured?
 
What does it feel like in my body to be nurtured?
Ask a question, listen to your body for answers and write them down. Refrain from using discernment, correcting or deleting, just record the thoughts as they come.
If this is really challenging, or the thoughts don’t seem to FEEL quite right, it can help to think of the ways YOU nurture OTHERS. Many times we do for others what we want done for us. See if this helps to open up your answers.
It’s essential to identify exactly what brings about the feeling of being nurtured, supported and cared for in order to schedule it into your day! Not having a clear understanding of what works for YOU can be one of the biggest obstacle to having a consistent self-care practice!
Once you have your thoughts written in your journal, read through them again circling what feels most relevant. Then ask yourself if it feels true. If you have jotted down that you enjoy a healthy, nourishing meal prepared by someone else, ask yourself “does eating a healthy, nourishing meal prepared lovingly by someone else make me feel nurtured? and notice how that feels in your body and if it feels true in your gut.
Once you have connected to your own inner-knowing as to what is guaranteed to make you feel cared for, you can begin making a list of go-to practices that you know work for you!
For me, my number one go-to, guaranteed-to-leave-me-feeling-nurtured, is a hot epsom salts bath with essential oils, candles and beautiful music. Warm water nurtures me and the additional special touches remind me I am worthy.
